Dr. Carolyn Mayo is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, specializing in pain management and women’s health.  She earned her Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine from the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College, Berkeley.  Carolyn went on to receive her Doctorate in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco.  Her clinical experience includes Alta Bates Hospital, Lifelong Primary Care Clinic, San Francisco Prenatal Clinic and the Bay Area Veteran’s Acupuncture Clinic.  In 2014, Carolyn founded Piedmont Acupuncture & Integrative Wellness to serve the community in Oakland, the same town where she was born and was raised.

Carolyn takes the time to listen to all of your health concerns, and works with you to find the most effective and nurturing path toward restoring health and well-being.  She has had particular success in treating those with chronic and acute pain from injuries, stress and anxiety, digestive disorders, gynecological conditions, infertility, as well as with pre-natal and post-natal care.

Carolyn was first drawn to the study of medicine as an undergraduate student of psychology and neuroendocrinology at the University of California, Davis.  She decided to pursue a profession in Traditional Chinese Medicine after using acupuncture, nutritional therapy, and herbal medicine to treat her chronic migraine headaches. She is continually inspired by what traditional Chinese medicine can achieve and takes great joy in helping others benefit from this medicine as she did.
